adding RCA input jacks to stock bose system

I have a '98 maxima with stock bose stereo, and i was wondering if it's at all possible to add RCA input jacks to the bose stereo :dunno: ? I really want to do this so that i don't have to use a stupid tape adapter to connect my mp3 player to the bose system, not to mention the poor playback quality from using the tape adapter. Please help!

i don't think you can do it. you could probably just hardwire the mp3 player to your stereo's wiring harness though.

how do you hardwire the mp3 player to the bose's wiring harness? sorry, i'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to car stereos.

I have an idea of how it would go but i really am not positive and wouldn't wanna steer you wrong, especially because it's bose. the guys in the audio section (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=675) should know. it would involve cutting the RCA cables and wiring them directly into the wiring harness.

There are aux-in adapters you can buy that use the cd changer port, one with rca jacks for specifically for an iPod (that will use the stereo controls ot control/charge the ipod too ^^) but they are expensive, especially the iPod one. Look in to a fm modulator - not great sound but better than the casette adapter/

I know this is getting more progressively more an audio section thread, but it's funny you should mention that adaptor, as it's been part of my recent life....There is no (read: false advertising on manufacturer's sites) Nissan iPod adaptor that uses the cd-changer, though I want one real bad. The only current option is to buy that monstrosity (pun) from Monster Cable, the iCruze, but it's pretty expensive...

Per the FM modulator, I disagree fully. The cassette adaptor supplies better (it varies case to case, but...) sound quality than any FM device on the market, unless you plug the device directly into the HU's antenna port (ie. Universal CD changers and such...)

You can also buy a realatively inexpensive adaptor that will take output from 2 sets (channels) of your Bose factory regular speakers and convert the the signal to RCA, the unit I have used has a gain adjustment. Using this set up for an entire system (crossover and 3 amps) usually causes unbearable engine whine through the speakers even with a filter and 1 farad stiffining capacitor. This set up would also entail splicing the unit into your factory speaker outputs.

You may want to check these guys... I do not know if 'maxima bose' is any different from standard Bose. It works awesome on my GM truck.

It's definitley possible to add an aux to the bose. I figured it out, and instructions are posted over on maxima.org. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?p=4083400
