Hi guys I’m a newbie to your forum and I need your expert info.
I have a 89 LX 4RD 1.5L DPI and just recently the tachometer started going crazy then it started to misfire intermittently under acceleration until it reached 2500 - 3000 rpm then it cleared up. It also skips a beat every now and then when idling and more when it’s ther motor has warmed up.
No codes in the ECM I checked the basics spark, injectors, wires…

I have read allot of posts that point to the distributor..

What do you think?
Thanks a bunch…

John.

oem is u'r best bet. it's expensive to get it from the dealer, but it's gonna work for another 17 yrs at least. u could go to a parts yard, junk yard, salvage yard, wutever u want to call it, and get one there. just go to a yard that has a 30 day or more guarantee. that way if it doesn't work, or doesn't solve the problem, u can return it.

as for the problem, it does sound a lot like the dizzy. the tach jumping means a bad engine speed sensor signal, misfiring is spark, and the speed sensor most of the time goes off spark, so that kinda narrows it. i'm willing to bet it's u'r igniter in u'r dizzy. that's what is controlling u'r spark, and is giving the engine speed. since both r a problem...

Thats funny, cause when I replaced mine with a brand new oem one it lasted 6 months. To me it sounds like your ignitor or maybe your coil. My coil has gone out 3 times and it started the way you described.
