I4 versus V6

I came into some extra money and want to know opinions on getting the new tiburon with either an inline 4 or the v6. I originally wanted the 4-banger to save on gas and stuff, but now its not as big a concern. I'm gonna be adding mods and want to get either one to around 300whp. :naughty: Turbo kits for the i4 seem way to expensive to get it anywhere near that, but th RIPP supercharger for the v6 seems good quality and good price. Anybody got onipions on the engine or mods to get me there? let me know, thanx guys

... 300whp outa an i4 --> turbo, expensive... not really, same as some of teh applications for teh V6.

if you do not know much about turbo systems, i would read Maximum Boost by corky bell....

V6 you have several options:
all motor... but dont plan on gettin more than 200whp... (if you get some nice cam/ pistons youll get over that . but not worth it

super chargers:
alpine- very fast and hard response from throtle... (its a roots type blower)
instant torque!.. very good at low level rpm range, decent at mid.. and starts to drop off at high rpm range....

centrfugal- builds up power throughout the rpms... it does not have "turbo lag", but the response is not as quick as alpines
(remeber these are 2 different types of super chargers....)

V6 turbo- this area is jus getting into swing now.. you can go custom, NGM has a kit coming out, or wait till other companies show their stuff....

everything depends on your driving situation.. this tib gonna be a daily driver?... how much are you looking/ willing to spend on performace modifications?...

remeber this....

along with whatever set up you go with... you need certain things for certain set ups to work...

alpine- you need an intake, exhaust, (do not need headers.. but can get them if you want).. the headers actually lower the boost with teh alpine unit...

sds (centrafugal)- YOU NEED HEADERS WITH THIS SET UP, and an exhaust... you dont need an intake... one comes with the kit...

along with all teh necessary fuel tuner computer ware, injectors, spark plugs, ground wires (recomended), etc etc etc

im not trying to intimidate you, jus trying to help you get a heads up on what youre gettin yourself into...

Alpine supercharger seems ok, but just no where near enough bang for the buck . the RIPP one seemed more feasible, or so i've read on the other hyundai forums...
As for intake,headers, and exhaust, that was planned from the start. along with plugs, wires, etc....but i dont know what type or where to get a "fuel tuner computer"...suggestions?
It would be a daily driven car though, so does that make much difference on kit? As for turbo, i know it'd be pricey but if i go that route i would probably just say fuckit and do a twin turbo myself. I personally am not that knowledgeable but my buddy is.And i would have work done that we couldn't somewhere professional. But if the i4 can get the same power for the similar price i'd rather do that. But that would have to be a turbo.The REAL Eng. kit seems good that says like 350hp, but is that real or just a line of hopeful thinking? AS for scaring me off, I comeplely know that is gonna be a lot and expensive but hey, do it and do it right!!! Thanks for the input and any futher stuff

i just learned this last week. maybe some of you know this allready though. the Tuson 2.7 has shorter intake runners on its intake manifold giving it better midrage and upper range power. that would be a sweet upgrade ported to match a larger TB if anyone was intrested.

v6 tibs were designed to withstand 240 horsepower, but detuned from the factory. (words of my western reginal sales manager)

i jus dropped off my tib at RIPP MODS for them to fabricate new headers, and exhaust system,,,

they got my tib for 2 weeks tho...
hmm but cant wait till i get enough for the SDS
