I wanted to know, what would cause a tie rod to brake or get bent. Also if your shocks are not so good, would that be another reason. I just want to know because I needed tie rods on my car.

I have a 97" Pontiac Grand Prix

Hi,

Sometime ago I changed out my tie rods (not on a Grand Prix) and was surprised to observe one was slightly bent.
There probably are a number of items I could think of:

1) Hit a curb--run up against a curb with a tire.
2) Hit a pothole that has an irregular shape--causes the tire to react in a twist.
3) Metal Fatique? I actually thought this might have been my situation.

When you compare old to new and visually see both --the problem becomes glaringly obvious. I set them together to get the measurement correct. The I saw the bend.
