Importing Skyline Chassis

I did a few searches and couldn't find anything with this topic. If there is one somewhere, please don't yell at me; just post a link and we'll be done with it. Anyways, here's my idea. If I were to import a gutted R33/R34 to the states, would it need any sort of bullshit safety inspection before i can register it? Once I get a chassis over here, I have a friend that will rebuild an engine and put it in for me for free. The engine we briefly talked about dropping in was a VG30DETT(300zx TT). If i'm not mistaken, it's only about 200cc larger than the Nismo R34 GT-R engine. However, that's not a final choice on the engine. I'm much more concerned about whether or not this is legal. I've also spoken to my insurance agent about this whole deal, and he said that if it passed government regs, they would simply insure it as a kit car. Even though my insurance agent had never dealt with something like this before, he was fairly sure that's how it would work.

I can't afford to tune the engine up to 1000hp, so i figured it was pointless having a skyline engine(all that potential will just go to waste). At the very most I might slap a turbo into it eventually, with a few other bolt-ons. What do you guys think of this? Legal? Worth it? If you have any links regarding this please let me know.

If you know someone that did this, or something similar, I'd love to ask them a few questions.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but it's 1:30 in the morning. Like I said, any input would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Don't know if this matters, but i'm in California.

That will not work. The R33 and R34 are unibody cars. They do not have a chassis. But dont take me up on that. I may be wrong. Someone correct me if I am.

And if you are talking about registering the car as a kit car. Its not going to work.

It can't be done. There are no shortcut solutions. You CAN'T make a kit car Skyline out of parts. It AINT legal. Don't bother trying.

Yup, but I don't know many people who are stupid enough to go through all the hassle for a car that you can just get crushed.

Thats true. Its ok if you dont do anything to get caught. Like running it only at the strip and carrying it on a trailor. But what I cant figure is for someone that ships a car in pieces (and goes through all the trouble) or wants to, who do you know across seas that will disassemble a whole car to export and how do they have the money to do it. Its pointless. If you could pay someone to do that you could probally pay to legalize it. Which cant be done now because MotoRex is gone under.

Lots of junkyards will! That's where the half-cuts come from. I used to see them half-cutting vehicles when I was searching the junkyards in Japan.
If we had ended up returning to the US when we left Japan I would have taken my car to them and had the front half-cut/shipped so I could put the parts in a 240sx.
Putting it together is kinda crazy, but then again they do that over there also.
