And for all those burnouts so stoned out of reality who honestly feel “LEGALIZATION” is the answer where the government controls and taxes the pot and everything will be fine… what happens to organized crime in this fairy tale? Do they just line up to apply for the government permits to sell (maybe even continue to grow) dope and happily kiss 50+% of their lucrative trade goodbye to taxes??? Or say the government decides to grow and sell it themselves, are the crime rackets just going to pack it in and move away???
You make an excellent point here. I hope some people open up their eyes and realize this.
Take notice people: the care free days of marijuana in Canadian society - just ended earlier today.
I hope it brings the debate in America to a conclusion as well.

can't help wondering how a single armed gunman can fatally shoot four trained police officers.Anyone got an item that's heavier on facts?
one other point.Marijuamna did not kill the four officers, guns did.

Well I'm all for legalizing marijuana and I've never even tried it. I've just never seen any evidence that makes me think it should be illegal. And as the original post said, the demand will always be there.

Most people who have guns know how to use them. I'm not surprised at all that one person can take out four police officers. Police aren't known for being good with guns. They have accidental shootings, shoot the wrong person, unload mag after mag without hitting shit. Happens more often than you'd think.
Of course some police know what they're doing. But people generally assume that police know how to shoot, and know what to do in a tactical situation, and that's often not the case. Especially when they are not expecting a shoot-out. I mean seriously, this is a major drug bust and you only have 4 officers? They did not know what they were getting into.
It's also possible one or two officers were there originally, then the third and fourth showed up later for back-up, so the criminal wasn't facing all four at once.
Most citizens who own guns are at least as effective as the police. Of course, if a citizen shoots the wrong person, he'll probably be in prison. If a law enforcement officer shoots the wrong person, he might get a couple months of desk duty.
One more point. Guns didn't kill the four officers, a criminal did.

Also, from another forum I participate in:
From Canadian officers on the police boards, a little background.
The "Raid" had already taken place. These were the officers detailed with securing the site. Two at a time. The thought is he killed the overnight pair and then the relief that showed up in the morning. The location is REALLY out in the boondocks, even for Canada. The nearest town has 60-80 people.
The marijuana grow operation was not expected, they were really out there for the stolen property (a whole barn full apparently)
The murdering asshole was a long time felon with a string of sex crimes. His own father compared him to the devil.

that's right blame the dope. nevemind i heard vancouver was giving away heroin to junkies. WTF, you can't smoke a harmless joint but our government is more then happy to give us a needle of heroin.
this is an islotated incident. it's to bad these policemen died, but if it were legilized or de-crimalized it never would of happened. if the "man" starts coming down harder on these burnouts then expect more of this in the future.
a joint is harmless. that is the bottom line. every danger around dope we put there ourselfs.
it's time to change things. either give us the freedom to make up our own minds on weather to smoke the shit or buck a rail of coke, shoot a few cc's of heroin. just as long as it don't effect anyone else. if you can afford a 1,500 a day coke habit with having to steal from others, more power to ya. i believe there is more danger in drinking then any other substance out there.
besdies do we really want to deprive ourselfs the joy of watching stoners try to make a choice on what munchies to buy? that shit is pure gold.

It is a sad day when four cops get killed. I was shocked and saddened when I seen this on the news this morning.
If it is made legal then why would we have grow ops going on? Where would the incentive be for the crime lords?
You could just rip down to the store and pick up whatever you need.
What choice would there be for them? There would be no need for them to exist.
Who is going to want to buy some stuff off some guy in a dark alley that put god knows what in it when you could get A++ weed at the pharmacy?
Let the government grow it or have Joe Blow farmer grow it for them.
I don't think that it is the demand that is the problem so much as it is the supply.
You don't see much problem with organized crime running booze now that prohibition has gone.
More kids will get involved in it? Yeah right.
Since when do kids want to have anything to do with legal stuff? Half the fun is knowing that you are doing something "dangerous".
Kids are going to get weed the same as they are going to get booze the same as they are going to get smokes whether it's legal or not.
Why is is not ok to advertise smokes ( cigarettes ) but Much Music has the Molson Canadian Countdown ( beer )?
What message is that trying to send?
My 8 year old kid is constantly flooded with commercials for beer and hard liqour but that's ok because it's legal?
One of the main reasons that pot is not legal is that the government hasn't figured out how to tax it.
All of the same rules that apply to smokes and booze would be transferred to the pot.
It should still be a crime to sell to minors ( as in liqour and we know how well that works ) etc..
That guy that killed those cops should burn for what he has done. No question.
You want to have a beer? Great. You want to have a smoke? Go ahead. You want to smoke a joint? Be my guest. Whatever floats your boat.
Opening myself up to some harsh words, but weed is one thing. Coke, herion etc is a bit different.
I've lost quite a few friends and seen them make some pretty bad decisions for another line.
I hear it coming, " pot is a gateway drug"..please..
Beer is a gateway drink to Vodka.
Same difference isn't it?

That's pretty much what I was thinking. If someone is already willing to do anything to prevent getting busted and sent to jail, aren't they just going to be more willing to do whatever it takes to avoid an even harsher punishment?
Also, drugs like heroin have been proven to cause chemical dependency- marijuana has not. Well there was one case where they claimed it, but the truth is that they got some lab monkies addicted to heroin, then removed the heroin from the experiment, leaving only marijuana. Well of course these monkies just took whatever they could get- in this case, marijuana. A fiend in need is a fiend indeed! :smokin:
This is one of the reasons I couldn't be a cop. I couldn't see risking my life to bring justice on some of these "illegal" activities.

In this case, looks like the marijuana wasn't to blame.
The article stated the felon in question was a long time criminal, and the police were really there for the stolen goods in the barn.
And the guns didn't kill anyone. It was a person.
