tranny issues?

got a 93 cavalier..runs good cold...after that it stalls out as soon as i put it in gear..runs fine in park ..put it in gear and sounds like tranny locks and it dies immediately..starts back up in park..if i let it cool down..i can run it again for bout 20 minutes..any help??

Please go into a little more detail about how you've attempted to diagnose this.

Try this: Start it in neutral and then, without using the brake, put it into D or R. If the car moves but then dies when you press the brake, I suspect that it may have something to do with the torque converter clutch.

thanks for reply..ill try that this morning..if it is the torque converter locking up how can i fix it?..does unplugging it help..i read that in here ..or do i need new tranny ..thks

Check your other post. Unplug your TCC. This will cause no issues.

runnun great again ..thks for help ,,site has been great just unplugged and runnin like a champ...on to other issues..gas leak ..bald tires ..etc,,, easy stuff

yep, TCC seems major bugaboo on the earlier auto's. Just leave it unplugged, but if/when ya can, replace the control, your gas mileage will improve.

I have never known anyone who realized significant mileage loss because of disconnecting their TCC. Maybe 1 or 2 MPG.
