'96 Voyager transmission slipping

I have a '96 Voyager 3.3L with a 4 speed auto trans. It started slipping the other day out of the blue on a long trip. Could this be electonic problem or just trans. going out. I have had the van for a year and everytime you put it into gear from park or N it makes a grinding noise ( sounds like plastic to plastic gears). Any help ?

I have a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan. It is now on its 7th transmission replacement/repair (5 under warranty). Dodge denies any underlying problems with their transmissions. The data you can find with a little research proves otherwise. Things to watch for: slow shifting, forceful lurching on shifting, refusing to shift out of 2nd when your start up (stopping the engine and restarting at least gets you past this point). Good luck, I found that since I bought the van used (even thou I bought it from a dealer and with a warranty) the LEMON law did not apply nor would the dealer take the car back. The transmission fell apart the first time within 3 wks of purchase. As soon as I can get rid of this Dodge I will NEVER purchase another Chrysler product. We have always bought our vehicles slightly used and kept them about 10 years. This was our first and last Dodge.

what's the level of the fluid? What color is it? How many miles are on it? Have you had it serviced recently?

Make sure you have the correct AT fluid. Check the dipstick, it should say ATF +3. Do not use Dexron or additives. If in doubt, try a full flush and see how it does.

what your hearing is the solenoid pack cyling.that is normal,you did not say if anyone checked the fluid...../
