This is regarded to the '96 T-bird and its O/D function...Its says in the manual thta when Yoy first start the car, the O/D is on, and you must turn it off. Well number one, I can't tell if the its on or off, because the light is not working. I dont know if it is just a simple light bulb to replace or what. Then just the other night, I took it on the freeway, and I was pressing the button to see If I could feel the difference when it shifts to overdrive or not, and it doesn't appear to be functional. Im wondering if you guys could tell me some things I could do to fix this problem before it wears on my transmission...Please reply ASAP..thx

Count the shifts while driving. If you hear it shift three times, then all the gears are there and I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

ok..cool i can hear all the gears shifting just fine, i was just worried that it would put alot of stress on the tranny, like starting a manual in too high of a gear...thanks man!

Ok here we go again...My engine went on (again), so I hooked a scanner up to it to retrieve the trouble code...It read back as PO430...which means Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)....could someone tell my exactly what this means..I'm thinking Catalytic Converter..am I right? Need some help ..please

I have exactly the same problem...Did you change your exhaust? I just added duals on my 4.6 with high flow cats, it caused the engine light to come on and it wont come out of overdrive, if you crack this one, let me now?

The yellow check engine light usually comes on when there is an exhaust senser problem. The o2 sensers or the egr valve. If it is the o2 senser your gas mileage should be bad, if it is the EGR valve it could be running rough up to including not being able to start if the valve is stuck wide open (too much vacuum). The o2 sensers are cheaper, bosch makes replacements, then try the egr valve. Both are relatively easy to do, just be careful reinstalling the o2 sensers that you don't twist the wires, install the senser then connect the wires. The dual cats should not affect the system. If anything the system will have lower back pressure. If the catalytic converter is shot the car should be idling rough, belching black smoke, have rough acceleration, etc. If you have a diagnostic computer you can narrow down which o2 is bad by noticing which voltage never changes, means it has failed. The good senser will be adjusting constantly.
