Bodykits

Hi I was wondering how bodykits work. Do you "install" them you're self or does it have to be done by a specialist. And what are the costs, and do they ship those things overseas? The reason I'm asking is cause I live on aruba and there are no places here where you can by it so I have to import. Any outside of the USA ever ordered anything?

hey, i'm not a wizard, but if you have to ask if you install yourself or get a pro to do it, i'd suggest letting a pro do it! please dont take that as an insult, but you probably have same knowledge as me, aka, i sit in my car, start it and drive, wouldn't have aclue how to install!! let the pros do it, so if something goes wrong you have someone to blame...just my opinion

AFAIK, most kits come unpainted or just primered, so you have to get them painted anyways. You may as well get the body shop to install them properly. If you want to try yourself, I can't see the front and rear bumpers being all that hard to swap as they appear to be just held in by plastic plugs and screws. Side skirts may be a different story... On mine they are screwed in, and the screws are filled and painted. If you car comes with factory skirts, you'll probably pretty much have to ruin them to get them off. Newer models may just use two-sided tape; I'm not entirely sure though.

The reason why I was asking is because I live on Aruba and I've had some bad experiences with mechanics here. I'm not sure if I order a bodykit from the US they will be able to do a good job here.

what country is aruba located? overseas shipping cost a lot and your looking about $600 to $800 US dollars. doing it yourself is kinda hard if you don't have any experience in body works. why don't you practice taking out your bumper and installing it back again that way you'll have an idea on how to install the kit. just make sure when you buy a body kit the fitment must be really good because if the fitment is bad, its gonna be a headache on your part.

just about every kit out there needs to be drilled for fitment, and just about everykit needs to be modified in some way to fit right. a good bodyshop is in order, even the dealership, if they have a bodyshop, can do the work. you can do it yourself, but you need a lot of practice on bodywork and fitting the pieces. remember, measure twice, cut once.
