Wheels and Tires on stock 87 s-10

I was looking to replace those crappy stock small tires on my 87 s-10 (205/75r15?) because they look so small and out-of-place on an SUV. I was just wondering what is the highest tire size you can go on a completely stock s-10 with no lift of any kind? Also, what about new wheels...? I am looking to get some black off-road wheels and I was wondering what to look for as far as wheel size? I know stock is 15x7 but does that mean I have to get 15x7s anytime I want new wheels? Any and all help is appreciated:)

I am asking this because I called a tire place and they assured me that I could go as high as p235/75r15 on my stock s-10 blazer without experiencing any rub. I guess that's about a 29 inch tire, not bad.

I have PR235/70R/15" Michlins on my 92 S-10 Blazer 4 x 4 with no problem, may go P245's next time if I don't go to a larger wheels.

You didn't say if it's 2wd or 4x4.

If it's 4x4 235/75 look good in the wheel wells

Sorry for not mentioning earlier: I have a 2wd s-10 blazer...Also, an updated note: after the back two tires went bad on me (tread separated on highway), I upgraded both of the back tires to 235/75r15 fairly knobby tires. It looks pretty good, no noticeable slope as I thought there might be.

I was looking at some nice black off-road wheels and was trying to find the right size for my 1987 s-10 blazer 2wd.
The stock rims are 15x7 (5 lug), but in trying to find some other rims, I realized that I didn't know the 'bolt pattern' or the 'bolt spacing.'
I am not sure how to find that.

The 235/75r15 will rub in the front you can run 235/60r15 in the front with no problems. I have this size on my truck now.

That's interesting because the tire places that I called assured me that I could run 235/75r15 shoes on all 4 sides with no problems at all.....well anyway, what about the bolt spacing or bolt pattern? I still don't know exactly what that means....I hear things like 5.25" or 4" bolt spacing...what do I need to look for?

you may have a little more room than i do up front, my front end is lower because of the added weight, but when I tried the 235/75s they rubbed. not much but they did. I can't answer your question on the bolt spacing or patterns. I have 5 different sets of wheels for my S10, and they all came off of other S10s and camaros, so I already knew they would fit. Maybe try researching on the TIRERACK website.

My owners manual sayes that I can only run 235/75/15 on my 4x4, and they also say to not run chains on this sized tire due to clearance problems.

You might be able to run matching tires up front, but you'll probably have the tires rubbing while turning sharp

Lug spacing works like this:
Measure the circle the lug holes make. It's harder with 5 lug because there isn't a lug directly opposite, but you can get close enough to tell. You could take the rear tire/drum off, measure the hub, then subtract the stud spacing from the outside. Your lug pattern is 5 on (whatever you measure there).

the easiest way is just ask your favorite tire store.
They have lists showing just about all wheel bolt paterns from the 40's and up

Thanks, I just might give 'em a call....for some reason I think I saw somewhere that my lug spacing is 4.75"....does that sound right?

Sounds right to me. When I ordered wheels I told them I needed the bolt patter "5 on 4 and 3 quarters". That means there's 5 studs and the spacing is 4.75. Guess they didn't change them since '88 on my '94.

if you actually take this thing off road as i do in my 2wd, i'd stay with the 15 in rim. the more sidewall the better. i wouldn't even go to a 16 in until you're putting 32s or bigger. and if you end up w/ rubbing, i lifted my truck for $30 and an hours' work.

btw, i am now kicking myself for putting 215/75r15s, which were pretty close to the back of the front fender at stock height, on it before i installed my cheapie lift. 'cause now i have new tires and want bigger ones.
