Greetings, Great place you all have here.
Q= Have 1996 Jimmy SLT mileage= 147000
I'm getting a howling sound, Like when you drive with one window down alittle and your ears start to hear the reverb.
Any ideal as to what may be the cause. and the windows are all up.
Does not go away when window is lowered.

Front wheel bearings maybe???? Mine sounded like I had Mickey Thompson tires with hevy duty tread, when I rellay only had standard radials......front end really whined.

Thanks for the reply,looking into the prob.
Cked for play in the steering but seemed to be ok.
I'm sure with amount of miles It will show some play,but not bad .
Cked play in huds bearings seems ok, was not able to move tire side to side or top to bottom. cked both tires.

When you checked the bearings, was the wheel off the ground? More than likely if the howling/hum decreases as you slow down it's one of your hubs...

Cked hubs with wheels up.
The howling sound starts at around 45mph very pronounced at 55, And yes the noise decreases as speed lowers.
Tnks for info.

Yep,replaced driver side bearing hud and lost half the noise.
the pass side seems ok.

Jimmy seems to have some extra sway,not sure if this was or is from the bearings or from the swaybar bushings or what?
Thanks for all the replys
