1995 S280 Auto Gearbox Slipping

Hi Merc fans...I am new to the forum having just bought a 1995 S280 and making the break away from BMW's for the first time. I have had the car 1 week and have done 150 miles since it was delivered to me.
I was driving it to work this morning and stopped at a t-junction as normal. When i went to pull out of the junction the engine revved very high yet teh car hardly moved.....a slipping torque convertor I guess.
The car seems Ok when it's cold but after 10-15 miles in first and second gears it just slips and slips.
Has anyone else had similar problems and was it a fluid level issue or a new torque convertor job to repair?
Having just paid top dollar for a supposed genuine 80K miler I am a little annoyed to say the least!
Anyone who can help......please do so
Cheers
