Rear door lifts question

The rear door (the back side of the vehicle, not the passenger doors) on my 97 Cherokee has "hydraulic lifters" to make it stay open. When it's cold outside, the lifters don't want to stay up,,at least not until it seems like enough air has traveled into the pump, or something...I am just guessing because I don't know how these lifters are supposed to work.
When it's warm or hot outside, the lifters work properly.
Do they need to be replaced?
Also, what is the proper name for these hydraulic type lifters that raise and hold the rear door up?

Had the exact same thing happen on my 96. The lifters are on there way out.....Get them both replaced. If you're handy enough, it's a fairly simple replacement. Not all that expensive.

yes, need to change soon. Mine hit me on the head a few times before I finally did. Very simplle but my 94 was $21 a side. Make sure the piston is right side up.

the whole thing. you juct pop off the little clips and they come off.
