99 trunk release not working

a month or so ago the car's trunk release stopped working. When you press the button you hear the relay click, but the trunk release doesn't pop. You can still manually open the trunk with a key.

I'm thinking about checking this out with a volt-ohm meter at the trunk while my GF presses the button. Has anyone else had this problem, and can you offer any suggestions as to what it might be?

WD 40 may be your best friend with this problem.

I wonder if you can add a keychain trunk pop release to a car that dont have the remote part though

Sounds like you have a good troubleshooting strategy...(had it been a door lock and I heard the 'click' the solonoid would be my prime suspect.) Of course lubrication as chevy0va1 suggested may be the answer....

I got my light out and started looking for a place that I could disconnect the wires and plug in my volt-ohm meter, and then I noticed the wires were broken! Apparently just from wear and tear. But all I need to do, it seems, is splice in some new wire and it's good to go!

Another thought: Add some shrink sleeving on the wires in the highly stressed area to prevent a recurrence.
