Endeavoring the hell of dropping my oil pan

is there an easier way?

Is there an easier way of dropping the oil pan? Yea just set it on the ground you dont have to hold it above your head and give it a drop...explain more.

I believe you can drop the cross member and then just unbolt the pan.

Dropping the crossmember makes it much easeir I've heard. I removed mine off of my DD engine with the engine out of the car. With my DD engine and my project engine, I'm gonna say you will also have to remove the bellhousing braces. They are pieces that bolt to the engine and to the bellhousing. They are like the bottom bolts on the tranny. You'll see them because they'll be majorly in the way for the rear bolts on the oil pan.

just to make sure since im going to turbo my car soon, you have to lower teh oil pan when you turbo it?

Uhhh yea. You have to route oil to the turbo via the oil pressure sending unit and then route oil from the turbo back into the oil pan. You have to tap the oil pan and either weld in a bung or use some kind of flange with a gasket.

I changed the oil pan gasket about a month ago great fun let me tell yah. It is impossible to pull the oil pan with out dropping the center cross member or pulling the engine out some, either way you go with it your looking at removing the motor mounts. Personally if I was to do it again I would put the car up on jack stands pretty high up (tires a foot or so off the ground) and unbolt the crossmember (with the engine still bolted to it) and with a jack under the cross member to control it. Then after I got it down as far as I thought I could place the jack under the tranny remove the motor mounts and jack that bitch back up. From here I would tie the engine to a board or something across the strut towers to support the weight of the engine and remove my jack and crawl under the car and undo the 20 or so bolts that hold the oil pan on as well as the braces for the tranny that go from the oil pan but you will see those.

Thanks everyone, spring break in 2 weeks the engine gets pulled bead blasting everything I can take off except for the head and bead blasting the head with it on the car gonna clean up the block and paint it do some powder coating paint the engine bay to match the car and relocate a bunch of stuff under the hood. I'll post pics through out the project and give a good before and after pic when it's done man it will be nice to have a tranny that looks brand new, I might just have to take my car somewhere and get them to change the oil so they can admire how clean the engine and tranny are. LOL

but seriously thats like in the top 5 hatchbacks ive seen pics of. id say just get the Kouki taillights and maybe a front lip spoiler, not even necessarily a conversion in the front, although that is always nice. but either way cant wait to see those pics!
