I just bought my very first car...1990 CRX Si, black ext. 180,000 kms, got a lil rust on the rear fenders but overall its in pretty good shape. I picked up the car for just $1000 canadian dollars which i dont think is that bad. Now i wanna invest in some aftermarket mods to up the performance and the exterior as well. Some 17" Enkei rims with Falken Ziex rubber was offered to me for $550 Cdn and im thinkin bout pickin those up along with maybe some lowering spring so the rims wont make my ride look too high. It still feels like im lacking hp and tq though so you guys have any ideas on any mods for a low budget? Im only 17 so my pockets arent too deep haha. Any tips and suggestions welcome, thanxxxxxx

Intake, header, and exhaust is usually the first place to start....

It should say on the black what engine it is, but if its stock its a d16a6. Honestly save up for a swap is a good idea. I'd reccomend either a GSR (b18c1) or a 2nd gen b16. You can get a engine with more horse (b18c5 from the Type R) but for the price you can probally get a second gen b16 to make as much power...

Or you can do a single cam swap, but I don't know shit on them and don't really care to...

well i can get some lowering springs for 150 bucks that are adjustable 1"-4" think that'll be better?

if your gonna lower it, you need struts too, and i would recommend a camber kit.

also, you know its all depends on you and how fast you want to go, as to which motor you should get, and also possibel future mods like turbo or anything and future hp wants

well i wanna get it putting out about 150 hp or more by the time im done with it. think i'll be able to do that with a stock motor? i dont know if a turbo on stock engine would work too well. whats an approx price on camber kits and strut and how difficult is it to install them?

my advice is to search these forums for info and to search ebay for an intake which should be everyones first performance mod. I recommend getting a 2 piece cold air intake for like $50 shipped which is easy to find on ebay. This is the same one i have on my car.

thats rather ignorant, there are plenty of SOHC cars that would walk your b16 rex all day, why dont you show the B in your engine code, anyway?

anyway.

you could build your a6 to be a rather nice first car. intake, exhaust, header, cam, and intake manifold and it'd be beating up on z6's.

I say keep your motor you have now and learn off it, you could build it into a pretty mean machine if you really wanted to work the internals. I had fun with my a6's before i did a swap.

Oh and the zc. Two motors acutally share that code. One is sohc and makes about 120hp and the other is dohc and makes around 140ish. the dohc would probably be fun to place with, but the sohc is basically the same thing you have now just with higher compression.

You know what I think? Buy and read some Honda performance books since you don't have a clue. Also a repair manual from www.helminc.com will be very helpful.

After that I would get the car current on all maintenance then worry about mod's.

thanks for the advice hybrid, i guess i'll stick with the stock motor and see what i can get out of it. should i just get a cheap intake or are the more expensive ones worth the price?

well alot of peeps would tell you I/H/E is the way to go, but thats if your Rex is in good condition. Meaning if its working properly, runs fine with no leaks, I would go for a tune up and save your money for a swap in the near future... just wait for the K20 series motor price drops down and it becomes more popular and easier to get. thats what i would do.

As for an Intake, its not about the price or brand, i mean IMO its about the filter on how much air it can let you breathe. Just make sure you have your rex looking stock and running like a champ for now...worrie about other stuff later.

intake is a intake in my eyes, i just run a stock air box with the bottom cut out and a k&n drop in filter, i like the stock look of it.
dont worry about the k20 thing either, the price of those motors wont be coming down for awhile, or the mount kits either.

best swap for you, i think would be a sohc vtec, its bolt in and the swap costs around 600 or so. so its cheap and its 130hp. maybe like i/h/e and a cam or something and that will get you your 150hp

Listen to Hybrid. Keep your d16a6 in your car for now and get to know your car better. Read my reply in your other post for "mod" suggestions.
