Hi~!

Can Rubbing compound be used to remove dust under a coat of paint. I know the Compound can remove some paint off the models, but will it work ?

if i understand you correctly... yes it can but it depends how deep the dust is. it will at least smooth it out but may leave a little black speck in the paint.

If the dust is well trapped under 3-4 layers of paint you might have a job getting it out with just compound.

yeah, in fact go to the Automotive store or Wal-Mart and get some 2000 grit wet and dry sandpaper. lightly wet-sand (see FAQ) and then use rubbing compound.

If you have all three grades of Tamiya rubbing compound than you need no other. Start with the most course then use fine and then super fine.

Ya thats what i was thinking, seems logical. So i use a coat of all three then tamiya wax? My paint jobs arent bad so should get a good shine right?

Be careful not to rub through the paint.

I rubbed through the pant on my first two this year - wasn't impressed - currently waiting for recoat to harden!
Well at least I'll learn from it!

I'm so paranoid about ruining a good paint job that I apply clearcoat and then rub that out instead. Works great! Especially when you have to apply decals.
