Rough starting

OK, I don't know how many people remember my post about my 88 LX not starting, but it turns out the problem was the fuel injectors.
I actually got a throttle body(old one had a bad TA sensor) with fuel injectors from a salvage yard for $75 and installed them and it fored up on the 10th crank perfectly, ran great, and no bad sensor anymore.
However, after that it starts up like crap if it sits for a few hours. When trying to crank it cold, it sound like it doesn't even have compression.....ex. cranking with the spark plugs out of the engine.
But, after a couple minutes of cranking, it starts to 'chirp'.....no chirp.....chirp.......no chirp....chirp.......vroom. Just like that. Then it spews with smoke for 30 seconds while idling very badly, and then smooths out. Then after that it starts fine considering I let it warm up to normal operating temp.
Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this. I've replaced the fuel filter, filled up the tank and used a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, and replace the air filter, and replaced the spark plugs as well, but I'm getting the same result.
The only thing I can think of is to once again remove the throttle body(pain in my arse) and clean it inside and out with some carb cleaner or change the oil(which is still old from sitting). I don't think the oil is the problem, but the no-compression sound it makes on cold starts is puzzling to me. I mean, obviously, its got compression if it eventually cranks normally and starts and idles fine.
Also, to make things a little more confusing, I know the timing belt or the starter itself is not the issue because I've attempted to crank it cold with the valve cover removed and I can see the timing belt is taught and the cams spin like normal.
Help me out please. As soon as I get this solved, I can work on restoring the rest of the car to road worthy-ness!
