Ok i was thinking today and this just popped up. 88-91 civics and CRXs Have a cable running from the trans to the gauge cluster for your speedo reading right? But the newer civics and del sols (92 and up) don't. They use an electrical signal for the speedo reading right? if this is so, how would you get your speedo working if you were to put an engine and trans from say a 99-00 civic SI or del sol VTEC into an 88-91 model? Any help? Maybe i am wrong.

I think for the 4th gen civics they use a cable B16 tranny, JDM ofcoarse. Maybe there is another way though.

vss's are interchangeable so just stick your stock cable vss into the hydro trans, if you are using a hydro trans

so 92-95 civic models use a speedo cable to too then? Or would you just remove the sensor that was used in the hydro tranny (92-95) and put the cable in its place from the 88-91.

why would you want to swap an older engine into a newer car?? isnt that illegal??

hes talking about a 99-00 si motor into a 4th gen. thats newer motor into older car.
im pretty sure from 92 and up its an electronic vss. so if you want to run your cable speedometer then you need to put your stock cable vss into the newer tranny. or if you want to run an electronic speedometer then you need to switch to a electronic vss, if your stock was a cable. there all interchangable within the trannys so just get whatever matches your speedometer
