high HCs on emmissions test

I have a '94 Geo Metro 5spd, 168k miles. When I went to have it CA emmission tested it came back as a "gross polluter" with very high HCs.

Anyone know some stuff I can try to correct the high HCs?

And no smart alecs telling me to move out of the state... :loser:

I recently failed and was tagged 'gross polluter' as well. My 94 has 225,000 and stills run well. I researched a couple of options and purchased a high flow cat and had a local guy fabricate a stainless 2" exhaust using the old headpipe and used up cat as a pattern. I passed with flying colors and now get better mileage.

thanks, but I was looking for something besides just throwing a new cat on it.

I'm going to change out the EGR and the PCV. I have until the end of April to get this fixed. I'll probably just take it in and have the shop work on it. I hate doing emissions...

I'll prolly throw a new cat on it as well. Only 4 bolts to detach to replace the cat.

Anyone know anything about the different types of cats? Any real difference or just the money you spend?
