SS Bumper??

Have you seen many 99-02 silverados w/ the new SS front bumper? How do they look? I just smashed my front bumper and obviously need a new one. I'm thinking about putting an SS bumper on but I'm not entirely sure how it would look or if it would fit properly.

I've got a 99 Silv with the SS bumper. I think it looks good...sort of sets the truck apart a little from the other 8 billion Silvys on the road. :biggrin: I will try and post some pics today or tomorrow.

A side view. My next mods are probably a hood, painted bedcaps. I would like to exchange my wheels for the chrome version, but crime is rampant around here and I think they would be gone in a heartbeat! :mad:

nice lookin truck... but isnt that just a bumper cover? You still have the factory bumper underneith correct? I was lookin into doin almost the same thing with my front end... SS bumper cover, painted grille shell, but with speed grille inserts.

Fine looking truck. I am going to go with the gen IV bumper cover and brushed speed grille inserts on mine.

Question, Red: Did you have the mirror caps painted or did you replace them with painted ones?

The painted mirror caps are smooth. I found a guy I work with that had the textured black caps on his black Suburban and did a straight trade. I think the textured look better than the painted version as the painted add more visual distraction. Just my :2cents: worth.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yup, the bumper is covered by the SS bumper cover. I was pretty happy with the fit though.....it looks like the truck came that way unless you knew otherwise. It is a street scene cover. Some people leave the 2 intake areas grey, but I decided on all black.

I got some feedback that alot of people think I should take off the SS emblems, drop the truck 2-4, put on tinted 03 taillights, and add an HD hood. Man, the mods never end, huh?!! :biggrin:

hey Red, did you just paint your existing grill shell or did you grab one off a taho or something?

Well,

I couldn't paint the chrome shell as I was told it would come out looking bad. So, I went on ebay and got a black shell (I think it was off a Tahoe?) and had it painted. The paint isn't perfect on the shell (it was a textured black and I think it required a special primer), but overall I'm happy with it. Now I guess I have to sell my chrome one or junk it. :rolleyes:

yea, i was thinking about going to a junk yard or something and hopefully i can find a shell off a tahoe that matched my paint...or just paint over it.

I have an 04 and just painted my entire front and back bumpers black. It came out looking pretty trick. If I could just figure out how to post some pic's now....

Red, what kind of insert did you put in the middle of your front bumper? I couldn't tell from the pic.

Uh...there aren't any inserts in the front bumper. (?)

There are three empty spaces at the bottom where you can put little grilles if desired, but I think it kinda breaks up the lines of the truck. :2cents:

I'd say all that except the drop would look really good!! Nice truck...does anyone know if they make just the SS bumper instead of a bumper cover for this year truck

Yeah, on the "real" SS's they have a little grille in the middle of the bumper that matches the grille...i was just wondering if you put anything in yours.

nice truck man, what did u do about ur fog lights after u put the SS bumper on front?
I want to do that to mine soon, looks great.
