electrical problems???

I have a 94 caprice classic...she starts up strong when cold and the voltmeter guage is above the possitive sign on the cluster...if i let it sit in idle the voltmeter bounces below the negative sign on the cluster about 1 time every minute or so...when i shift into gear the the voltmeter drops to the negative side..anybody got any suggestion..i have a 140 amp alternator and an optima yellow top battery...
