Loud humming at 35mph

My mechanic said it was my scalloped tires that was causing the loud hum. Indeed, the tires were worn. I replaced all four lastnight with new ones.
As I left the tire place the noise reappeared at 35mph..... what the????
So $300 later I have solved nothing but a set of worn tires...
It seems that it is coming from the front end. My change in the cup holders are rattling when I get above 40mph.
It doesn't seem very safe with this loud noise...Any thoughts and or price estimates???
Thanks stef

tire noise will change when driving over different kinds of road pavement, gravel, dirt etc. the noise might be from the wheel bearing(s) if it is it should change while cornering making the outside wheel louder and putting the brakes on quiets the noise. you should get another mechanic to diagnose the noise and write up an estimate.

Well, you guys were right! Wheel bearings it was. One side only for a 4x4 was the tune of $350.
Feelin' more safe and no more headaches from that awful hum.
Thanks for the reply!
