Gas Tank replacement

96, 121k miles, have recently developed a small fuel leak, which I have yet to try and locate due to it being winter here in the north east.

Question: is anybody aware of a "cronic" problem that I should look for first? Lastly, what kind of nightmare am looking at if I need to replace the tank?

If you can park in a [vented] garage for a night, you could do the cardboard under the car trick to get a general idea of where the leak is coming from.

I had to remove the tank in my 90 and it wasn't a lot of fun because that generation of Bonnies have all steel fuel lines that simply love to rot out. You are lucky because the majority of your lines are nylon.

Basically, you need to drain the tank by driving it until you are on fumes, syphon or following the instructions in the service manual using the fuel pump test pin behind the battery. Disconnect the filler and vent tubes. Support the tank with a floor jack and a piece of plywood that will fit in between the two tank straps. Unbolt and remove the straps and carefully lower the tank.

It's not too difficult but it sure is a stinky job. Wear some chlose that you can just throw away when you are done.

Sounds like you didn't have to much fun re & re your gas tank Radman. I don't hear my fuel pump when I turn on the ignition and my 90 Bonne, wouldn't start after the 3 rd try right after replacing the starter. What luck, first the starter then the fuel pump.... I didn't even have the chance to test drive it. When It's stops snowing out, I need to get into gear and lower my tank. I wish it were the relay, but I switched them around behind the glove box and had no luck.
