Wiring my amp

What gauge wire should I use with my ZRS-8? 4 gauge? What gauge should the ground be too? Or should I up to 2 gauge? Also, would the fact that my box being like 2-3 inches from the rear of my trunk muffle the sub severly and reduce performance? It's only like that temporarily unitl I get some longer RCA's and a longer power lead and ground.

Some guy on the internet has made a pretty convincing argument that the closer to the back of the trunk of a car the front of the sub is, the better the response curve is (much smaller dips and spikes in the frequency range). Generally with wires, bigger is better, but 4 gauge will take 1500+ watts or so just fine. The ground should be the same gauge as the wire coming from the battery.

edit... well, added something, anyway. I actually got over 500 characters in my sig while adding it! It sure didn't look like it... I had to cut some stuff out to make it fit.

The bullets and the double spacing add to the characters I believe, or at least the bullets do. And they add a lot.

I think I have enough slack on my RCA's to move the amp to the back of the trunk near the bumper and the box towards the rear seat. I know I have more than enough 4 gauge to work with, it was just the RCA's worrying me. My remote wire is really long so there's no problem there. It just sounds so weird at certain frequencies. It might just be the box being shitty (although I think it's actually built pretty well) or the fact that sub is being muffled by the side of the trunk it's facing 2-3" from. I think the latter of the two is the problem. Fine tuning the amp I just don't know how to do, which is posing a real problem.

4awg is the minimum you should use, 2awg would probably be better but 4 should do fine

you also want the sub facing the rear with the cone a few inches away from the trunk lid, in a sedan this should give you the best response and output.

what do you mean it sounds weird at certain frequencies? where's your lowpass set? how big is the box again?

The box is 28w x 16h x 24d. I dunno what ANY of my dial controls are set at or what they should be set at. But when certain songs play and a certain bass line hits it sounds like it's messing up. Hard to explain for me. I also don't see how I can get a better response. Wouldn't it muffle the subwoofer if it was nearly right up against the side of the trunk? I mean there is no where for the air in the port to go practically.
