With a Nice start on looks, its time for engine. I have set some goals and spent some hours searching so plz help me find my way.... I want to get the car to 13's eventually I think this will need 400hp ?? 4600 #'s
92 caprice wagon 305 tbi (engine code e) thinking a swap to 350 tbi (7?)
My 'idea was / is get stock engine replace cam and get it in [290 ish hp?].....
once in the list runs --not in defined order
headers w/elect cut off to still maintain the grocery getter sound
get more air in
throttle body upgrade
head work (if needed)
rear end change
new suspension (thinking of air bags)
computer programming (edit software or new chip)
delete factory fan (may be before swap)
upgrade ignition
The actuals I am still researching so any www. ya recommend I Will check em out.
this 'plan' is to set and project a budget ($1,500. initial then as I can add to it prob 75-200 month with another $1,000 at end of year) and is intended to keep driving car as the work goes on (not a daily driver it might see average of 100-200 miles a month and a possible 1200 mile trip 1 x a year) Had big hopes of going 'way out' 383 weekend only car with this one but i have to keep tame for a while still so says the $$.
Uncertainty I have:
Did I miss the answers on another form?
How can I find what HP these additions add?
Is if the stock lower can really handle 400 HP?
Could they handle a lil nitrous on top of it?
IS There A Better Way?
ANY input is appreciated !!

I'm sure there are better ways of obtaining 13 seconds, but you certainly found the strangest way...and I'm sure an sb chevy 350 bottom end could handle 400 hp.

it definately can.
get the lt1 that came in caprices and then get the lt4 kit for it...that would be cool.
there are so many things you can do with sb chevys though. ive seen n/a small block cars in the 8s

Try putting in a carb'd 350. That'll be the easiest way to get your goal if you can get it to fit.

Why go to carbureted? That's stupid... he'd lose power unless he went real big. And of course it'd fit, those Caprice engine bays are huge... a mild carbureted manifold with carb isn't going to be much taller than a 305 tbi manifold if at all. EFI is the way to make reliable horsepower with the best economy.
Listen, If you want 400hp out of a Chevy small block... that's easier than convincing Micheal Jackson to go to your little brothers Chucky E Cheeses birthday party. He'll go play in the balls all night.
Send these guys an email, they quoted me $3200-3400 for a LT1 with 6speed package. That includes ECU, uncut harness and all the fixings to make it go vroom. And it's a direct bolt in, wiring wouldn't bee too much of a hassel.

I see built 350s/355 with 400hp all the time in the classic car trader mags for around $2500. 350s are so cheap and easy to get ahold of/mod. Which is why I suggested them.

Well yes, I know that.
But why Carbureted... that's taking a stepbackward in technology. Easier to get the power out of EFI, and it's more reliable horsepower.

Its hard to convince a purist that efi is better. My best friend is one of those people who is a close minded "Muscle car or Bust" SOB. Making them believe you is like trying to.... keep Michael Jackson from playing with balls.......... in the ballpin of course :grinno:

ya'll like that eh?
Both carb'd and efi can make good power, but for daily driver and reliable power. EFI is the way to go.

in his case he doesnt really have to worry about wiring...but that does come into play with most cases and putting fuel injection in.

Carb'd is quick, cheap, and easy. Sure EFI is more reliable..but it's also more money. I didn't see him say anything about it being a daily driver. If there is..I'm sorry I overlooked it.

well hes talking about swapping in a 350 tbi. Carbureted motors are a lot cheaper and easier to get high hp then a tbi.

A lil clarification... tbi is in the car now is why I said tbi... I understand to goto tpi its a headache and computer as well as fuel delivery would need to be changed. Thus driving cost higher. These are only reasons I planned tbi. 305 tbi now 350 tbi (?) later
THANKS for the input thus far greatly appriciated!
