How do I make my '05 GTO faster? Help please.

I just bought a Phantom Metallic Black 6 speed '05 GTO and let me tell you...it is one hell of a car. I want to do a couple things to it to make it faster, but I have not seen any performance parts online. I don't know much about cars, but I am hoping there are some easy things I can have done to give it some extra juice. i don't want an exhaust because the stock one is sweet enough....NOS is out of the question....and I am not supercharging it because of the price...so what can I do? I have not seen any engine mod reprogrammers (place site to purchase here...) out for the '05 yet. Let me know how to maximize power, torque and HP. I want to create a rocket!!

my question to you guys though is this...
is there any small time stuff you can do to slowly add horsepower? obviouosly if you supercharge the car it will gain 125+ HP, but i want to know if i change air filters...spark plugs...maybe cold air induction...ect.. if i can by several small modifications add a significant amount of HP.

That stuff might get you 3 HP. Plugs and air filters aren't going to gain you anything over stock except maybe in gas mileage.
If you are looking for performance, first thing would be a catback exhaust. Probably a good 10 RWHP gain there. Then look at full exhaust. Cheap performance parts.....They don't exist. Nothing cheap about adding horsepower.
Try LS1speed.com...I know they have GTO parts available.

best bet to create a "rocket" is to save that money over time instead and work towards a kenny bell

what is a "kenny bell"? i figured that was the answer. do all of these parts really add as much HP as they claim? there is a waterpump that claims it ads 12HP, or a cold air intake that ads 15. is this smoke being blown up my ass? i really want to supercharge it...but what else will i need to do to accomodate the new supercharger?

a kenny bell is a screwdriver type supercharger, dont know if they make one for the ls2 or not... but i was saying save ur money and get a supercharger. a cold air intake might give u 10 hp if ur lucky. idk about a water pump.

Cold Air Intake will get you maybe 3-4 RWHP.
Electric water pump has been proven to open up 7-8 RWHP on an LS1 car. Quite expensive though. $500+

I also am looking at 05' GTO's and i think your best bet is to talk to the dealer you bought the car from, through pontiac themselves they can ussually help you out with that kind of stuff, what would work and what wouldn't, for instance the dealer i talked to said that he could already send an 05' gto to get worked before i bought it to have be ready with 800 hp and still be totally driveable with the warrenty and all, sounded funny to me but he said he could do it. it would cost 12000 grand though, long story short.....they should be able to help you at the dealer.

^ I don't know if id trust a dealer, make sure they tell you whats going on the car before you let them do anything.

I work at a chevy dealer and it is true we can send out or order a hopped up full warranty vehicle. We get ours from Joe Gibbs Racing (Nascar Dude) and it does not void the GM warranty if purchased new with the modifications.

Cold air intakes have received mixed reviews; some have "heat soak" problems that actually slow down the LS2. K&N just released a new CAI, but it's not approved for pollution controlled vehicles, yet. When they get approval for the FIPK it will be virtually the same, or the exact same from past experience. Number of other manufacturere sout there also touting 10-18 HP increases but have not heard of factual gains on the 05 anywhere near that in real life use. Diablo and Superchips will have tuners available or already may at this time; haven't checked this past several weeks. Supercharging is a big kicker and the lower ends should be able to hold a 5 to 7 lb boost with no problem, maybe even 8 or more. Anything you have done aftermarket, save for the filter or possibly CAI will likely void the warranty so be prepared to battle if you have a problem. Recently dealers have even been getting testy with people over-oiling K&N's and clogging the MAF screens on some vehicles and charging big bucks for out of warranty repairs on what should be a simple fix. Have not heard this on the GTO but have on the Fords.

Fist off take it back, get your money back!
I know this sounds kinda silly but in the end you will be alot happer with a Pontiac GTO, not the AussiChev GTO.
I would look for a 1970, as they have the most aftermarket parts for. If your real GTO does not have an engine or you want more power from the engine you can but a crate engine or have one built, you will find that for the power it's alot cheaper then buying "cold air boxs" or "chips".
Your real GTO what ever one you would pick out could even come as a conv. with the top down and a real Pontiac engine under the hood you can goto the dealership you bought the fake one at and show the salesperson that you cant be fooled into a fake GTO!
With a REAL GTo you can goto Norwalk OH Pontiac meets and race your GTO if you wish, you can also read up on the history of how your car and engine came to be with it's rich history. Unlike the fake GTO you have now it's only history is a Aussi's blue print made a few years ago.
Your New Old GTO will have real parts on the engine like for say valve covers that you can by that are Chrome, not a big plastic cover that hides the Chevy engine!
If you decide to keep it read my other poasts, they will make you feel better?

The fuel rail covers are there to protect the ignition system and to help dampen the upper engine noise.

Protect the ignition system from what? Dont you think that just maybe one of the reasons for the plastic was to hide the engine?
I really would like to know what you ment by "protecting"
As for noise, yea I can buy into that, it's funny how you can buy a Harly Davison with ear bleeding noise, but when it comes to "engine noise" they frown!
I know that your T/A from the factory has a shaped air intake that tunes out the "Vrooom" suck noise, thats why late 70's shakers on Pontiacs are non working, they connected them to the side air extractor.
I think it's crap.

Plastic and aluminum saves weight. The Screaming Eagle Harleys are taking over the racing circuit. Why would I want a "fake" shaker?

They dont have a ton of stuff, but at www.pfyc.com, under the GTO section, they have some performance parts you might be interested in.

took the words right out of my mouth, 72. If you want a muscle car, you have to decide the type you are looking for---
A) old school iron with endless aftermarket hop-ups available, for any budget
or...
B) modern, clean, quiet sport cars with expensive and often complicated upgrades.
The cars from class A are time tested, with actual racing history, and a little soul.
Cars from class B are slowly melting into one base car re-badged and sold as whatever the sticker on the window says it is.
Pontiac has been a rebadged cheverolet for over 20 years now and I don't see any change in sight.

I guess if you don't like my option you can call the Post Police and cry! I guess some of you have never stood around and talked cars outside your PC.
On the Street/ car shows / races you cant call the police to back up your idea so here you can, you can cry that so and so is not talking about the main theme.
I offered my option on his question, get a real GTO , it's cheaper to build up and has more options, and is 100% a real American GTO, not a fake. Some of you broke you own rule by a post telling me to stop, how about a PM/email to me? No you wanted to look like a good guy and play the poor poster tied to the rail road tracks.
I guess I will know that i'm doing wrong things when I get banned, but I'm not banned yet! So I guess it's more disagreement then doing wrong, so stop calling mommy and get over yourselfs and just DONT READ IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT!
As much as you wanted to see it as me telling the truth about the fake GTO it was an option for the man to get THE REAL DEAL, and not a high priced renamed/knock off that nobody in the real world of Pontiacs calls one of it's own.
I'm not sorry what I wrote, and I'm not sorry I got some of you so upset that you called the post police!
I'm sure that even if I gave the guy web address to the stuff he wanted and added "It's not a real GTO" you would have did the same thing.

At first I did not like the new GTOs.
My father-in-law has a 65' BBV8 4sp, pretty much stock and all original. Its nice, but its red :\
One of the fastest stock street cars I've driven.
Now the new GTOs are in a totally different class.
Smaller, lighter motor, with just as many ponies as a BB.
When you add better handling, and better fuel economy...... get outta town !
The new GTOs are KickAss, no question about it.
I've only test drove 1 2004 GTO and it was fast/quick ,
but not set you back in the seat where you cant lean forward fast

I have a 2004 GTO and a 1964 GTO.
The '64 is a real headturner and goes fast in a straight line. It doesn't corner well at all and doesn't stop very well. At the end of the drag strip, it takes both feet on the brakes to bring it down from 110 mph in the shutdown area. Yes, disc brakes can be fitted. Different shocks and springs and sway bars can be used. In addition, add the fact that 15 mpg is GOOD mileage for one fo these cars.
End result? The 2004, '05, & '06 GTO's can run circles around the old GTO's. With relatively little money, they can beat the old GTO's BADLY on the drag strip. There are a number of street-driven new GTO's running 10 second ET's at the drag strip. My '04 gets 22-25 mpg on the highway and is really comfortable with a good sound system and air conditioning.
I love both cars, but the person who posted all the negative remarks about new cars is sadly closed-minded.

It wont be no rocket with some of the options you canceled out lol
pfyc.com - gto section, lots of performance options
One major thing about a GTO, is you should do it right,
headers, high-flow cat, cat-back exhaust
Cold air intake, maybe port&polish your throttle... Might find someone locally to do that for you.
Good HP gains cost mula... you 'best' bet to start off would be an exhaust... you can ad a resonator to keep the sound down of an aftermarket exhaust, ask a muffler shop about adding one
You're better off saving for a supercharger, or if you're just rich, do a twin turbo stealth setup View Here (http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/ls1/us_gto.htm)
Good luck on your findings, with out money to shell out on ur GTO, you wont be rocketing anywhere fast lol

I understand your stand on the new GTO.
But this was the wrong thread for it. He has a car he wants. He asked us about modding it. You telling him to sell it was nowhere NEAR what he was asking.
We got it man....lay off it. You crying about the 'fake' GTO on this site isn't going to change anything.
:15millionsign: This guy's constant spamming of his near autistic rants is getting on my nerves already.

I also am looking at 05' GTO's and i think your best bet is to talk to the dealer you bought the car from, through pontiac themselves they can ussually help you out with that kind of stuff, what would work and what wouldn't, for instance the dealer i talked to said that he could already send an 05' gto to get worked before i bought it to have be ready with 800 hp and still be totally driveable with the warrenty and all, sounded funny to me but he said he could do it. it would cost 12000 grand though, long story short.....they should be able to help you at the dealer.
lol thats what they all say my dads a car salesmen and he is an honest one but some of them will blow some much smoke up ur ass
