Spark plug heat shield advice

I'm changing the sparks plugs on my 2000 Trans Am for the first time. I am not familiar with the heat shields around the end of the spark plug wires. I notice they easily twist and you can push them in and then they spring back. I don't want to break anything getting the wires off incorrectly. How do you get the plug wires off in conjunction with the heat shields?

are u replacing the wires? if so don't worry they issued a service bulliten to us back in '95 saying to leave those off because at high rpm's they cause misfiring and a bunch of junk. just pull them out and yank off the wire with them. just make sure to zip-tie the new wires back out of the way. GOOD LUCK

I'd like to keep the wires/heat shields. Can I just yank them off or will that break something?

I would like to know that answer. I'm using pliers on the exposed plugs in order not to damage the heat shield.

Wingmass, welcome to AF, but please try to refrain from posting in a thread that is more than 3 months old. If you have a question that is in the same topic, just make a new thread and it'll be alright.

Thanks and enjoy AF.

Well I hate saying just use the search feature mainly because it usually fails to get you what you're wanting to get.
