steering shaft rubbing header

any of you guys with headers ever have this prob?

I guess I should have noticed this before I finished the install, didnt notice until I drove off the ramps.

i had that problem when i installed my pacesetter mid length headers, first of all how bad is the rub?

are they just touching, can you still steer?

or is the shaft catching on the header and stopping, i.e. wheels wont turn?

mine would just kinda bump into headers but would still turn all the way so i took that one back off and beat it with a hammer to make a little clearance.

works fine now, be careful about beating them tho, might void a warranty, but if they dont fit-fug it beat em.

let us know what you're gonna do.

yeah, lt1man, I got the same headers. I think your right, really all I can do is take it back off and beat it. I sure hate to go to all that trouble, though. not a bad rub, just enough to keep the steering wheel from returning on its own when I come out of a turn. I thought about taking a dye grinder and making a small groove around the steering shaft. not deep enough to weaken it, though, of course.

i think that would work too, if your just barely touching tho, those headers are hard to beat on, mine wasn't quite as bad as to make the steering wheel not turn back in a turn, it would just make a little vibration at certain angles-you have pacesetters? are they ceramic coated?

no. I went cheap and got the painted ones. I had them sand blasted and powder coated. Did you install your own?

Had that happen to me before the steering column rubbed aginst the header. I put new stock motor mounts which raised the motor higher than the old worn out one's and clearance was fine. Maybe a solution.....

yeah,thats not a bad idea. I prolly need to anyway.
