I drive a Cavalier and I want a car to get me over 350 horsepower. A Cavalier will not do this, and I want to stick to GM product, or possigbly a first gen celica, that I can get with a Manual transmission. So my question, how difficult is it to boost a grand am with a turbocharger. How much PSI will it run safely, and how easy are they to mod? Any other misc. information you could give me about performance grand-ams would be effing sweet guys.

If I like I will own.

And other than Little things like cold air intake....

And yes you can push a cavalier over 350 HP with ALOT of work!

If you're going to run boost on a grand am, your going to need to change lots of the engine internals, such as valves, heads, springs, shafts, stuff like that. the 3.4 in the late model grand ams is relatively easy to mod, but there aren't a whole lots of mods out there for it. Getting "350 horsepower" out of any grand am is going to be damn near close to impossibe without some huge changes. You're going to need to change essentially every aspect of the engine, transmission, and transaxle, and then you're going to need the suspension to take all that power. If you're looking for an easy 350 horsepower out of a GM product, go with some kind of F-body, trans am, camaro, firebird, corvette, or GTO. In order to get that much power out of a grand am, you would have to put a rediculously huge amount of money into it.

I'm with ride on this. A whole lot of bucks for horses not really needed to push a GA to the max.

Not slamming ya, but I think it a waste of your cash, bud, and so many hassles to work out, and then so many things to go wrong after you mod. it out. Find a camaro or Bird, hell look for an old cop car with an Interceptor engine, but I don't see the need for that kind of muscle [350 hp] in a GA. The GA isn't designed to handle that kind of hp, period.

I have to agree with Ridenuor and Knifeblade on this to put that much H/P into a GA is going to be expensive the car is not going to handle it unless you start from the ground up from tires and suspention to the cutting the thing up to make things fit. All in all even with the added weight of the engine mod the overall weight of the car is too light and you will have a lot of headachs trying to make it work. Go with something that cand handle that king of upgrade.
Good luck

If ya really wanna boost a GA up a bit, some easy things that don't create too much modding. The cold air intake is one, a set of headers [requires some modding of stock exhaust,] a flow trhough cat., a K&N air filter, and some racing plugs, ignition coils and plug wires, a chip to tweak the ECM.

haha yea pistons and everything need to be changed before you get a turbo! i say change pistons and cams before you think of putting a turbo! Yea or even some pumps and crap! stock wont do it!!!! But go and put cold air intake, and few mods that are 200$ each and then exhaust, headers THEN finally TURBOCHARGER!!! lol :D

If you want 350 Horse. Get a Trans Am or Camaro Z28 or SS. But its up to you. Im not giving you crap or making fun of u. But I still dont understand why people would spend all kind of money into such a little car so they can say they can keep up with a V8? Think about it, buy a Trans Am, stick money into it for performance, then you can put out like 400 to 500 HP

no way dude they are extreamly expensive and not to mention GAS lovers haha

here the thing.....
you got a trans am 5.7L? and i got a grand am 3.4L.
We one day decide to spend 500$ u on ur car and me on mine. so its 500 on urs and 500 on mine.....
you get lets say 30HP and i get 30HP too...just a saying

that 30HP will be so much littler effect on a V8 5.7L than on a V6 3.4L....and i guarantee you that i can keep up with mustangs 4.6L V8 and i got like nothing on my car....and not keep up but even smoke them!
well depends on the driver i guess but i guess im not bad and that driver sux but anyways.....i really think V6s are great and not too much money to make it a beast!

so yea sry but i just never seen som1 pimp out or top end a V8 with a regular job!!! ;-)
