1990 C1500 Parking Brake Flashing

I have a 1990 C1500, 5.7 liter with 260,000 miles. The parking brake light flashes 9 times and 1 long, then repeats. The brakes work fine. The fluid level is ok and the pads are about half worn. I'm temped to just let it flash, but just wanted to make sure nothing serious may be wrong.

Do you have Rear Wheel ABS? If you do and the ABS light is burnt out but the Brake light is not, the brake light will illuminate to alert you to a problem. That would be my first guess, if you have no ABS light, but you do have Rear Wheel ABS, then the Brake light could be telling you something about the ABS module or the ABS speed sensor. If the brakes are nice and tight and your not losing fluid, then I would suspect ABS next. It's the only item that would flash the light, as the main vehicle computer does not tie into that circuit. Only the proportioning valve safety switch, E-brake switch, and low brake fluid level sensor(if equipped) are tied into that light. That leaves the ABS system needing a way to alert you of a malfunction, hence an ABS light, or using the Brake light. Hope this gives you some ideas. -Chris 96 Z71 5.7L All stock

hey, my truck is also a 1990 c1500 with 150000 miles. my brake light was doing the same flashing you described. i was going to have it checked, but one day it stopped flashing.

did you ever find out why yours was flashing? and what did you do to fix it?

I have only read a little bit of SpitAndDirt posted but it looks like it shows you how to jumper the wire harness to get the codes. My '93 C1500 flashes a code continuously when the ignition is turned on. Does anyone know what 1 long flash and 3 short flashes means?

I was cleaning up the ground connections for the lighting system (Trying to get my fast turn signal problem to go away) and after I reinstalled the ground wires the flashing brake light has gone away. We will see for how long.

Well, the brake light is back on. Not flashing now. I hoped it would stay away for awhile.
