I need to install a 7 way trailer connector on my '98, 2500 and was wondering which one would be best and easyest to install? Or am I better off having it done by a pro?

If you're confident in your ability to work on the brake system and basic electrical work, you'll be fine doing it yourself. I don't know what controller I have, it was on the truck when I bought it. My connector I got from an auto parts store (I think it may have been NAPA, not sure though) to replace the 6-pin that was on it.
READ THE DIRECTIONS if you do it yourself. Common sense can hurt you installing the controller, unless they've changed the color coding. Black goes to ground, but red DOES NOT go to B+ (at least on mine). I found that out after nearly catching my truck on fire.

Thanks for your input. It was not nearly as tricky as I had convinced myself it would be... However you likely saved my backside. I would have put that red wire in the wrong place had you not given me the heads up. Thanks Bob

Haha, yeah... filled my garage with smoke.. Luckily, I had a larger guage wire going to the hot stud on the firewall, so I didn't smoke the entire wire. I also discovered the fuse that was in there was too big for the wiring. A 40 amp fuse won't blow from shorted 12 guage wire.
