I saw the 98 prelude that guy was selling.

It wa cold 30-40F outside and it appeared that the car smoked white on startup. I hear this could mean a bad head. After the engine idled for a while and was warm I did not notice any blue smoke coming from the exhaust which is a good thing.

The previous owner gutted the catalytic converter so the check engine light came on. The ATTS light came on too. When the CEL comes on does this automatically mean that the ATTS light comes on? If the catalytic converter were to be put on would the CEL go off and would the car run normally? Would the ATTS light go off too. I suspect that no one knows the answer to this unless it is hooked up to a computer to read the codes.

The car had some cosmetic issues but nothing major. But the smoke on startup kinda made me nervous. Any suggestions?

was it smoke or just condensation? b/c if it was 30-40 degrees outside, good chance it was just condensation. now if you were to test drive it, and saw a lot of white smoke constantly coming out, then yeah, that would be a problem with the head gasket... and it's good you didn't see any blue smoke. to answer you other questions... i have no idea... someone else can help you with that one... sorry :dunno:

Thanks for the input. It was cold and very damp yesterday here in NC. We just had rain for like 2 days. I also want to drive it up to Highway speeds and see how it does.
