I have a 02 Elantra GLS and i bought racing seats for it as im modding it out. I have been told that if i remove the seats my airbag light will be on. Does anyone know how i can stop this? Is it a open or closed loop system? I dont wanna blow my airbag system thats why im worried about this. anyone done this to their car already and have advice?

Maybe on the newer ones that have the side air bags in the seat or the occupant sensor to determine if there is a occupant in the passenger seat, but on your 2002, I do not see anything in Webtech that states removing the seats will cause the air bag light to go on.

Update:
Opps, I stand corrected. Upon further checking Webtech, I noticed that there is a PPD (Passenger Presence Detection) device in the passenger seats for that year. See here (http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/iindex.asp?id=394876132#_394876132). The reason I did not see it in my previous search was because I was concintrating on the Seats diagrams and not the SRS (Air Bag) diagrams. My error. Strange how the diagram for removing the seats do not mention at all the sensors or the connectors.
So yes, it would seem that taking out the seats might cause the Air Bag indicator light to stay on.
