Spare tire swinging.

I have a 02 Envoy. And noticed the spare tire swinging under the frame. I got home and tryied to tighten it as to the instructions in the Owners Manual. I can't get it to raise or lower. I cranked and cranked counter clockwise and the tire did not lower. When cranked clockwise it did stop after cranking it as much as it would go. Still swings. I am sure that this is not normal. Anyone else have this prob? What should I do to fix this? Tnank you in advance.

What you can try to do is let the tire down, and shift the tire so if fits in the grove. You may have to push the tire forward if not broken. Try this before going to the dealer.

Whan lowering the tire does it just come down fast or does it take awhile, meaning cranking it up or down? I have tried to shake it loose while cranking it down (counterclockwise) no go. I can't seem to get it to come down or raise.

You should see it moving after a couple of turns if all is well. Good luck.
