i'm at the point in my life where i'm really ultimately undecided, but i lean towards the beleif of theism(not athiesm). it's the belief that "god/a god" created the universe and life and all, but that he doesn't intervene in the way things are conducted.
and while i can't say i believe all of the things written in the bible i do believe that jesus christ, son of god or not, had the right general idea on how life should be lived and how people should be treated.

What your shooting for is Deism, thats the whole "clockmaker" idea that God created the universe then left it to do what it will do. Theism implies that God does have an effect but only through the mind or consciousness, which is still in my opinion, some effect.
But yeah im with you, I guess that makes me an "other"

a proud Roman Catholic... polish people are real religious. If my mom wasnt a lady she would of bin a priest. If i missed church one sunday it was like the end of the world.
i'm not what you would call the most religious person, cause i break laws, do drugs, fuck girls and shit. But i always pray for forgiveness and go to church every sunday, hopefully i'll get some points for that. I always got a blessed cross round my neck, and i feel like theres something protecting me.
An example.... when i was younger, when i got in fights i would go crazy and boot people in the head an shit if they went down. I could of seriously killed a few kids or gave them brain damage or something. One of my friends doesnt believe in god, he hit some guy that was hitting on his girlfriend one time in the head, the guys head slammed back into a wall and the kid died. He went to jail for 5 years. He hit the guy ONE time. I'm not saying if you dont believe in God bad shit will happen to you, cause if you're a good person, then good things will happen to you. But i do bad things, and i feel like God protects me from worse outcomes or me getting into worse shit.
Might be hard to understand... but i've gotten out of so many close calls with gangs or with cops, and everytime i felt like it was cause something was protecting me, watching my back.
Prolly sounds stupid to some people... but whatever, thats how i be :D

i appreciate all the responses, but it seems that some of you are confused... there is a difference in atheism and agnostic. Atheism means that you are dead sure that there is no god. Agnostic means that you do not know if there is a god, or you are unsure which religion you wish to partake of... keep on votin! and i will remove gothic.... i have no idea why i made that a choice anyways

How can god stike them if he is no one to them?
I do not have a religion as well, my dad and some friends are the same.
Actually I lean towards old indian religion, in which God is a spirit, he is everything, which makes us god, and if you try something really hard, do you best he spirit turns things in your favor. The people who practice this can fall in trance and become the spirit, basically they become everything, can see everything and can do about anything.
It's actually pretty interesting.
I disbelieve in christian god because I can't think that there is some man in the sky looking at people, that just sounds stupid to me.

How can god stike them if he is no one to them?Notice the j/k and the smiley after my statement. Besides that God does not have to be "one of them" to strike them dead if he chose too. Otherwise the only people he would strike dead would be his people. How fair is that?

I am a Christian(Baptist) and I go to church every Sunday I can. I even go on Wednesday if I get a chance. It really bothers me how many people out there don't believe in God or a god. I was raised in the church and will raise my children in the church. I guess it all depends on where you grow up to how you base your faith.

Sure, people are much more likely to follow the belief system in which they grow up. Christians generally produce other Christians, Moslems produce moslems, etc.
It's what people feel comfortable with.
Also, it's the effect of religious indoctrination. Much of the participation one follows in the church modifys your beliefs to better fit that particular faith.
Most organisations that rely in a specific social structure, whether its your high school, the military, a political party etc use the same method.
I am curious though, what you find distrubing about athism. I was brought up as an Anglican (Episcopal). I am an athiest, partly because I an offended at the excesses of some organised religions, but mostly because I cannot bring myself to believe in a thoroughly illocial and irrational belief structure, that most religions require.
I just do not have faith now. I used to, twenty five years ago. Sometimes I wish I did believe; some aspects of my life would be easier. Instead I am 'cursed' with an analytical view of the world around us.

I have nothing against athism. Its like I said it all depends on where you grow up. I only know lne athiest, I was just saying how I was brought up. I was not trying to push anything on anyone because I know how bad it would affend me, if it seemed that way I am sorry. I too have problems with my faith sometimes. I know it can be hard to grasp a figure of some sorts that can see, hear, know everything about everything. Its probably hard to think of a Heaven and a Hell for most people. Not trying to pust anything but here is something I have heard before.
One day in a college class the teacher was talking about God and he talked about not believeng in a god because he could not see him, hear him, smell him, taste him, or feel him.
A Christian student replied " Can you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel your brain?" "No" replied the teacher. The student said, " Then how do you know its real."

I don't believe in religions. Takes up more thought than should be required for an ALL KNOWING being...
I believe in a higher power, something guiding our lives (JAMES EARL JONES VOICE) in a great circle of life. Ashes to ashes...blah blah blah.
I was raised Bible Beating Baptist. I can go toe to toe with most people on bible trivia. (BUT I think the god referred to in it is actually an alien. If you want proof read Ezekial 1 v.4-6)

Think of it as worshiping "mother earth" its a very nature based religion traditionally focusing mainly on a supreme goddess and a lesser god, other variants have many other goddesses and gods. When people think of wicca or the wiccan religion they think of witches, witches make people think of evil women making potions and crap. Although the wiccan religion was inspired by witchcraft many people who practice it are simply just very nature and sense oriented.
I am sure karmacae can give you a better description I just wanted to post this up before someone makes the mistake of saying something ignorant like THEY WORSHIP THE DEVIL AND EAT BABIES!

It does not necessarily worship the Earth, but it does hold it sacred, and celebrate the cycles and the seasons, as well as the traditional harvest days. It is a modern day relgion based on pre-Christian practices. Wicca has one main rule dont harm any one. It does include the belief in many gods and goddesses. It is not evil, and it does not use "spells" to curse or hex anyone. There is no belief or worship of Satan. Magic spells are a part of the relgion, but not like the stuff you see on tv. Magic is nothing more than using the energy that exists around us in nature. LOL and there is no eating babies.

I'm a catholic, but am firmly against the church, I do not believe anything they say.
I do believe in god, but I picture him as a decent bloke with a good sense of humour, who is good to those who are good to others and rewards those who have led a good life of realising where you fucked up and not fucking up again (Something 90% of supposed "strong Catholics" don't do and will end up being damned for it).
I do not believe that god wants us to go to church, I believe that this "confession" stuff is bullshit as well, it's a place for people to lie, aka. Do something, realise it's wrong and then do it again (WTF?) and I think the bible holds about as much credibility as the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, just a novel written by some crackpot many years ago, there's been no evidence to suggest otherwise.

A prophet, the one right before Muhammed. And he's right, Christians don't believe God has a family. He's not actually the Son of God. If want to be fille din, you can PM or IM me. I'm studying the Middle East so I'd love to talk to about, anything. But yeah, religion, *sigh*.
Yeah, and the Chirstians are in the Qur'an when the Arabs had a huge army and were taking over the world. They were known as people of the book and therefore not killed but give n the option to stay alive and still practice Christianity. Gotta pay a tax, but better then, join us or die. But that's anciet history. Look at the freakin' Crusades and what not.

Like I said, feel free to IM or PM me. I'm a talker when it comes to these things.

I appreciate the answer Damien but I was hoping for that answer from Hossian. I am curious about his take on Him as a Prophet.
Thanks

I think the bible holds about as much credibility as the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, just a novel written by some crackpot many years ago, there's been no evidence to suggest otherwise.
Would you mind going a step more with this?

I'm a catholic, but am firmly against the church, I do not believe anything they say...

#1 If you don't believe anything the church says why would you consider yourself catholic?
#2 The bible was written by many people, or "crackpots" in your words, who we know very little about but yet are supposed to believe without answers to any logical questions. That's where I have a problem.

Yeh thanks for the excuse guy. We believe that Jesus was indeed one of the GREATEST prophets the world has EVER seen. He is mentioned in the Koran numerous times and God said that 'I praised him' and YES, he would return to ressurect the dead for judgement during Judgement Day. We beleive that he had all the powers mentioned in the Bible. His mother, the virgin Mary, is considered by many Muslims as the greatest female character and is guaranteed a position in heaven for the awful pain and misery she had to experience in her life with her holy son. However, according to our beliefs, we should keep Jesus as a prophet and blessed messenger of God (no more) who was introduced to the world to pass down his messages upon mankind. Now, according to Sunni beliefs, Muhammed was the direct successor of Jesus Christ (Hazrat Isa) and the last prophet. However, Shiaths challenge this belief by believing that another prophet came after Muhammed (They still respect Muhammed but not their greatest extent).

Because I'm baptised as a Catholic and was confirmed as a Catholic, mainly because I had little choice in the matter, so I have little choice but to label myself as one.
As for the bible, why do people hold so much belief in it when there is little credibility to it. For all we know it's just another piece of litrature with no proof that what's being said is in anyway correct or what God himself ever said. Need I add that it's full of contradictions? I've seen zero proof as to why I should take the bible any more seriously than a good novel.
Trust me, if the bible was true, God'd have wiped out the human race ala. Noah many times over, mainly because people are idiots.
