95 Pathfinder Alarm problems

I'll try and be as specific as possible...

95 Nissan Pathfinder SE, excellent shape, no aftermarket mods... all factory installed stuff.

Here's the problem... the Key fobs don't work (original. The programming on them has been confirmed by the dealer as good. the dealer says that nothing seems to be wrong with the alarm brain either. This was confirmed by another alarm mechanic (3rd party)

The alarm won't turn on or work even though the switch (on the middle console) is in the "on" position. The light won't even turn on. The weird part... when I shut of the car and leave it for a minute or so, a faint but distinct sound comes from the alarm horn. Think of a morse code sound and you'll get the idea... it even has the pauses. it does follow a pattern too.

I have checked everything that I can think of but still can't get it to work. Any ideas out there??? How can I check the brain myself??? Should I just disable the alarm horn (unplugging it) or try something else???

Thanks in advance

Try looking at your alarm module under the drivers seat. You can either slide the seat all the way back or take it out completely. I personally prefer the remove the seat completely method as it allows you to fully expose the module and pull the carpet back. I purchsed a 1995 SE 6 months ago and had the same problem only to find out it was the master control module under the drivers seat. I also learned NISSAN no longer makes these modules and I never found one from a junk yard after looking for 3 or 4 months. I have the written programming instructions from Keyless ride if you'd like. I sold my key fob on ebay and I'm thinking about buying an aftermarket alarm. Good luck.

thanks... i'll check... if you can give those instructions it would be greatly appreciated. If it doesn't work do you think getting a new alarm is best or just forgetting about it? I'm not too worried about theft but the keyless entry aspect is a definite plus for me.

Keyless Entry Remote Transmitter Activation Procedure #626

1. Locate the electronic module under the driver’ seat (see figure).

2. Under the center of the Nissan label on the top of the module there is a 7/8" hole. Rub your finger over the label to locate the hole and punch through the label with your finger or a dull object such as a pencil eraser. Inside the hole is a square yellow button. This is the programming button.

3. Cycle the ignition key to "ON" (but don’t crank engine) then back to "OFF". Press and hold the programming button. The siren will emit four single introduction tones followed by a five tone burst. Release the programming button. The siren will now emit single prompting tones at one second intervals. Each prompting tone is an opportunity to enter a transmitter code. After any prompting tone press the large (arm/disarm) button of a transmitter. The siren will immediately emit a confirmation tone. Wait for another prompting tone and press the large button of another transmitter. Repeat until all transmitters to be used with the vehicle have been learned.

4. Turn the ignition key "ON" then "OFF" to exit the programming mode.

i also have a problem with my alarm, the keyless entry works great. But when i put the switch to arm, it works ok for a while then after a few hours the alarm will go off all by itself. is there a way to fix this on the brain or is there a short some where. when switched to impact that doesn't seem to work either. any one have any ideas? Thanks T

I constantly see problems with the stock alarm setups on 87-95's...I guess the best solution would be to get an aftermarket alarm.

Aside from that, pull your driver's side seat, pull up the carpet and check the wiring. Mine had a corroded-off ground wire under the carpet that made it not work. If you can test the switch with a multimeter, do that to make sure it hasn't shorted out internally.

thanks for the advise i'll try the wiring first.
