Hey guys, this is my first time posting on AF and the DSM forums. Im a big fan of DSMs eventhough I dont have one yet, but hopefully after a few more months of work and Ill be able to afford a 97 GSX or TSi. After looking around on the forums for some begginer tips Ive made a list of possible early mods for my car. Im probably not going to hevilly mod it since I probably cant afford it but here are my first mods of choice, so tell me what you think!
1. Greddy Type S/RS BOV or 1g BOV (If I get the greddy Ill get a hard pipe and direct it back to the intake so I dont mess up my MAF. and I know that a 1g works just as good but I want that Greddy squeal!)
2. Catack exhaust, probably Borla eventhough I dont hear too much about them, my friend has one on his truck and it sounds great, and yes, I know that it will sound different on a 4cyl turbo.)
3.New intake system, AEM maybe (But this I have no idea about, I really dont want to mess up my car with the wrong parts :/ )
4. Progector headlights, possibly one of the best looking mods on any car, ever. :)
5. Maybe a 16g but that might be pushing it since im not too experienced but we'll see after im done with the rest. I dont feel comfortable doing such a drastic mod
Any input would be greatly aprecieated and I hope ive found the best site for DSM related info, besides DSMtuner.com of course! :)

Welcome to the forum! Those mods sound great! Just make sure u buy a gsx\tsi that has a good owner. Abusing a dsm will make u spend more money on tune ups and such.

they don't make AEM intakes for 2g turbos, and they don't make a borla catback for a 2g GST/TSI
turbo upgrades require a lot of supporting mods, boost contorler, boost gauge, fuel system etc

ya, im prity new to the whole DSM comunity as wel.........but after reading and posting here and thier ive learned to not get ahead of my self an take things 1 step at a time, get a part....put it on....then decide what part will be best to buy next ( like complineting partsif needed ).
when i first had my GSX i had 3,ooo$ to spend on it and i was gona run out an buy a big azz turbo ( Evo3 16G ).....but i realized after reading alot here and doing alota research / talking to people that thats not a good idea, you should start with things like OLD parts that need replacing and things that the major parts are going to count on to work well ( Guages / Controls ) . ive already typed to much, so to sum this all up into what a freind of mine told me......."you goto build a foundation before you can build a house"
just goto be super patient. hope that helps soem how!! :icon16:
P.s. - if i dont know what im talking about some one tell me!!! LOL

you cant take the honeycombs out of a 2g(95-99) mas. thats strictly a 1g mod.
one of the first things you should get is a boost guage and build a boost leak tester

I have never heard of that exhaust for DSMs and from the picture it doesnt look like it would be for a GSX. Here's what you should do: Get an Injen-like intake off Ebay for about $50. It's the exact same pipe as the Injen but doesnt have the Injen name on it. Or you can get one from ExtremePSI for $140. Or you can just buy the real Injen intake (pipe only) for $200+. Get a used 1g bov and upper intercooler pipe. I got mine together for $60. You can always sell the 1g later for the Greddy. Then get an Autometer boost gauge off ebay for $50 shipped. Then get a manual boost controller. Joe P is a good one and it's only $45 shipped. Or if you have no money you can make one for about $12. Then get a 3in turbo back exhaust and magnaflow high-flow cat. Maybe about $800. That should do it for a while. And all of that is only about $1,000. Good luck!

For the BOV question do you need a new UIC pipe if you get the greddy? I could always go with the 1g but I want a louder sounding BOV and I dont really trust crushing a 1g bov since a friend of mine tried and messed it up big time and was stuck without a BOV for a while ROFL what in idiot!
I like the idea of turbo back but isnt it alot louder? I dont want an obnoxious drone sound i just want people know im not stock :).
As for the intake, screw the name brands it dosent matter at all Ill prolly get a no name brand.
here i found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7927536953&category=38634&sspagename=WD1V

Yes, you need a new pipe for any new bov unless you just get an adapter plate for it. You should get a new uicp anyway. If you havent looked under the hood at yours yet, do so. It gets like 1/4 in thick! I dont have any personal experience but I dont really think the Greddy is all that more loud. Btw, recirculating has nothing to do with the uicp. It's just taking off the plastic piece that goes from the bov to the intake to dump the air back into the system rather than leaving the plastic piece off and dumping it to the atmosphere. Also, you dont need to crush the bov. It can handle the boost you are going to be giving it.
It seems like a lot of your info is coming from non-turbo, non-dsm types. A "cat-back" is basically just half an exhaust. A "turbo-back is a whole exhaust, from the turbo all the way back. You WILL need this. Also, Civics have an abnoxious drone NOT dsm's. It is VERY hard if not imposible to make a dsm sound all ricey and high piched like a "pissed off bumble bee." It will sound low and deep and yes of course be louder, there is no way it wouldn't.
Look through these intakes. The one you had was good but it is $100. You can get one as low as $50-60 w/out filter and just go buy a K&N (FIPK ~$120, normal K&N around $30).

The borla is expensive for just a catback. I bought a turboback for $250 total used. If you need a new one, even though you're on a budget, you can get apexi for around $400 and a RRE downpipe for $230. Cheaper is offbrand which I wouldn't do, or custom (usually ends up being press bent.. decent but not best).
AEM intakes aren't used on turbos. Buy the cheapest you can, with provisions to recirculate. Good job on knowing to do that. Dejon tool for a good quality mid price.
New turbo isn't in your future unless you are considering a used turbo, such as a 14b or 16g. In both cases, you will not be able to run the turbo's full potential.. and will require a bit more than bolton mods unless you buy an expensive install kit.
All pretty common knowledge, welcome to AF.

you can get apexi for around $400
Are you talking about the N1? Where can you get it for that? The lowest I've found it is $500 shipped.

alot of the high end sports cars use borla exhaust and it sounds awesome, it's spendy but borla makes some good shit and you'll get a nice deep tone. as for the mods, stock 4g63's have went over 500+hp on stock internals. getting an evo16g wouldn't be pushing it, it would be more like joining the rest of them.

pushing it for stock fuel, not stock internals. i buy exhaust for performance, not an extra $150 for the tone. As for $400 for an apexi catback, I believe boostedspyder or someone else posted a link to $430 shipped was it? New on ebay cheaper.
