i did a gsr swap in a civic dx. drove it for a couple of weeks and runs fine. and then all of a sudden i started to hear a knocking noise. sounds like the engine is hitting the firewall. it only knocks when im kinda release the clutch too fast on first gear or second gear. first is always ruff so it always happens on first. car runs fine, but the knocking noise scares me b/c i dont know if the mounts are torn or something else. help me out guys..

yah I think the obvious thing to check is the motor mounts. If they are torn, ES MMI are a great replacement.

might not be the motor mounts, check the clearance on the right side of the engine form the hood. ive heard of one of the swaps for civics not clearing the hood properly: look to see if there is any indication of the engine hitting the hood.

I think it's the B20s that won't clear the hood, either that or the H22.

Excessive engine movement can almost always be traced back to worn mounts.

h22 can be very tight fit, particulary if the car has had a front end on it(not perfectly straight) but all the b series swaps should fit without an issue. only time the b20 might not fit is if you try to use the really tall manifold found on the crv sometimes.
first thing i would check for is your rear engine mount and the 2 touque mounts.

the b20 won't fit without a head swap(b16,b18). i would check your rear motor mount if it sounds like the engine is hitting the firewall.

what about u'r axles? did you use old ones or r they new? the reason i ask: a clunking on accelleration can mean the inner joints r going bad. So if they r old then that might be it.

a red neck way to check if the motor is in fact hitting the firwall. take the hood off the car and have a buddy stick his head out the window and watch while holding on for dear life as u get it to "knock"
also, just see if u can rock the motor u'rself. see if u can get it to hit the firewall. that'll pretty much narrow it down.
