How do you know when the teeth on the cam gears are aligned properly with the belt.

I have it #1 at TDC and my cams and their holes are aligned.

Putting the belt back on, but I want to make sure its on right, are there any more tricks?

Unless you had everything marked from before, you can only set the cam and crank to their corresponding TDC marks and slap the belt on, making sure to keep those marks in order. Then rotate the motor and tighten the tensioner.

you should have a mark on your cam wheel or wheels dependign on sohc dohc, they will line up with lines on the block, my sohc was one line level with the top of the bottom of the block, and the other to a plastic arrow on the bottum left corner, and put it at tdc, then go a head and put the blet on, if its doesnt fit quite right, go a head and move the bottum gear just enough to get the next tooth into place, hope it helped
