Noise from passenger side

Just started. A gear type noise from passenger side, not sure if it is coming from under the hood or the dash. It increases and decreases with exceleration and deceleration. It can be stopped if the climate control switch is shut off. A mechanic said it was the heater blower motor but I still have heat. I suspect a bearing in the a/c compressor. HELP
