do disk brakes need to be torqued

some one was telling me that if you dont torque the lugnuts to factory specs than it could warp the rotors on your car.

The lugnuts are not on the disc brakes. They're on the hub that sits on the rotor. And no, you really don't need to torque them.

Actually, the answer is that you do need to torque your lugs. Reason is the 2 cap screws that hold your rotor on are merely intended to hold the rotor in place for easy assembly on hthe calipers and install of the wheel.

The lug nuts apply pressure to your rotor because the rotor sits over the hub and you lug studs starrt from behind the hubs.

It is true that unevenly torqued lugs will warp a rotor, but the torque would have to be significantly off on a couple of the lugs for that to happen. Still, if you use the same amount of pressure when thightening your lugs, you should be fine.

I personally always torque my lugs to 80 ft-lbs. with a good torque wrench. also realize undertorque can lead to your lugs backing off at high speeds which isn't too good either.

Of course you SHOULD, but you should also drive the speed limit to the tee and not blast loud music but sometimes you gotta look past the rules and think about common sense.
