97 Lumina hesitation

Help! Two dealerships and a local mechanic have not been able to solve my car problems. When driving at any speed in any gear, my Lumina will start hesitating like there is water in the tank. This will last 5 to 6 minutes and then the car returns to normal. It will happen once an hour and if I am at a dead stop, the car will stall completely. This problem occurs if the car is cold or warmed up.

I have had my fuel injectors flushed, all new spark plugs and wires, and the local dealership claims all my sensors are working.

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

I have a 98 LTZ that started doing virually the same thing. What my dealer found was the Mass Air Sensor was acting up intermittantly. The hard thing for the mechanic was that the code was non-resident in the computer and they had to hook up the diagnostic computer to it and let it do it's thing. I believe that it was a code of 102 or something like that. Anyway, the part is about $150 - $200 without labor.

Smack that MAF with your hand or a screwdriver handle a few times while it idles. It should have no effect on it. If it starts idling rough or dies, the MAF is bad. It's the part in between the air filter and the engine, goes in the duct, got a few wires going to it.

If you find it's bad, anybody with a screwdriver and 5 minutes to blow can put one in, save some money.

sounds to me like the tcc sensor in the tranny. If the car dies when you come to a stop, does it stall out, or like hit a brick wall, and jerk, and die? I really know nothing about these sensors, only what I have learned at this forum. C'mon jeff, correct me on this.
