i have a 3.1 engine and it has a fairly good leak i trased to the engine block just below the gooseneck. im sure the thermostat is leakfree. im fairly mechanically inclined but never did anything like this b4 maybe a head gasket outa an escort once. do any of you think its worth a chance in doing it myself. i have a few backup machanics if i get in a real bind, but i like to try it out myself first w/o screwing up my car. i would appr. the input. thanks duane

I am not a mechanic either, but I just finished replacing the intake gaskets in my 97 pickup due to coolant leaks. GM is famous for this. I am sure I'll be doing my 2001 m.c. next, lol. With a good manual (I like the Haynes series) and a lot of patience, I vote go for it. Either way, don't put it off.....I found evidence of coolant around the lifters and rods.

well, i replaced the intake on my 99 MC and so far so good. took prolly 12 hours to do so i think it beat paying someone to do it for me. biggest problem i have is the alt. believe it or not.once everything was installed, there s not alot of room for my big hands to work, but all in all, it was a learning experience.just hope to never have to do it again
