Smog Pump

I just got a 454 SS about a week ago.I looked under the hood of my new truck and saw a smog pump.:( Anyway, has anyone here taken one off before? cause id really like to get that thing off and get back some HP. i know that ill have to buy headers for it (unless i plug up 8 holes) but will removing the SMOG PUMP affect my computer cause thats my real concern?

R.I.P. My 95 Chevy was rear-ended and totalled by a semi two weeks ago,bent right in the middle...still runs though

I took the AIR system off my truck, I just welded the holes shut. You could also find plugs that you can just screw in. I'm not sure what the computer would "think" about having the system taken off. It seems like it would think you were running rich since you're not pumping in fresh air. If yours has a seperate belt for the pump(s), take the belt off and see what happens before you physically remove everything.
