abs light on

Mine is a 4X4, 97, since a couple of months abs light has been permantly on. I guess is the speed sensor. I have tried to locate it with no luck. Does anyone has a diagram or picture showing the exact speed sensor location?? Any help will be highly appreciated

my 2002 4x4 also on continuous. no diagnosis yet. noticed there is a service bulletin from jan 2003, but i dont have access to see what it says.

Well, since you asked for "any help", I'll try. I have a '99, but it should be in the same location. I hope I don't confuse it with something else, but the pictures on the auto parts sites make it look right. Here it goes.
On each front wheel, I believe on the outside of the bearing hub is where the speed sensors are located. They usually come installed on new bearing inserts, but are also individually replaceable. The rear sensor is located on either the axle or differential housing somewhere - this comes to me second hand, so I have not verified it yet. There is only one sensor, so I'm told, for the back wheels.

how are your brakes, first step of finding a abs problem is start with the brakes, check your pad, fluid lines , calipers, just might be your prob.

if not autozone will read obdII code for free.

Pulled the following info from ALL DATA. It's for a 98 but should be the same.
The anti-lock brake system uses three variable-reluctance sensors to determine vehicle speed. The anti-lock brake sensors operate on magnetic induction principle. As the teeth on the anti-lock brake sensor indicator rotate past the stationary sensor, a signal proportional to the speed of the rotation is generated and sent to the anti-lock brake control module through a twisted cable and shielded wiring harness.

Front
The front anti-lock brake sensors are non-adjustable. The front anti-lock brake sensors and the front anti-lock brake sensor indicators are replaced separately.

The front anti-lock brake sensors are attached to the front wheel spindles. The front anti-lock brake sensor indicators are pressed onto the wheel hubs.

Rear
The rear anti-lock brake sensor is located on the rear axle housing. The rear anti-lock brake sensor indicator is located on the differential case.

Also check to be sure your ground is clean and tight:

I do not think autozone can read the ABS codes. Their scanners are for emission controls. Not sure though. Have the codes read and post back. We can give more information then. I have access to Ford repair from 96 up on all vehicles. Some info on pre 96.
