93 intermittent start,click,wierd growly idle

I've searched this forum + others...the closest I found to my problem is here.....

but I don't have an anti theft system (I think!!)
Anyway...Its a 93 4 cyl that has had problems starting on and off...Will just click once. All the lights/dash/radio/ warning lights come on. I'll try again a few times and it'll go. I just bought this car and had it towed to a garage for new brake + gas lines. I had the guys check the ignition..they charged the battery(it had been sitting in storage for a while) and said it was fine. Yesterday I drove to work in it just fine, but 8 hours later I started it up and it idled Really wierdly! It was a deep growly uneven idle that heaved the car around. I drove (still the wierd idle) the 1/2 mile to my house but when I went to slow down to turn into my driveway it stalled and wouldn't start again...(tried many times in 15 minutes..just one click each time) Pushed it into the driveway...went out and tried an hour later and it started (wierd idle again). I moved it forward out of the way and there it sits. So I wonder what the problem could be and if it is something that could be fixed without professional tools/diagnostics.

Oh and with regard to the link I posted:

Well, It wouldn't seing as how I have a Standard transmission.

don't worry about hwhere you posted. When you say weird idle, how do you mean? lumpy, intermittent revving......?
I would have you starter checked at autozone, you'd be surprised what this can affect!
