I was seriously thinking of buyin a '98 gti vr6 until I checked out this site and saw so many horror stories. Are VW's really this bad or is it just me. I am in the market for a small sporty fun car and I really like the GTI's but I can't afford to be fixing it all the time. Are most VWs frequently problematic or like everything are there just some bad vehicles?

Please help!

whoa easy now. not not exactly. some might be problemmatic, but not all.

go to http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeromain?id=1, narrow down your search for what you want. also you can see some of the technical questions many of the people have and even ask them. go to the forums, look what type of car you are looking for exactly, you can also look inthe classifieds. I have not heard of many troubles with the car. but take a look.

VW has its problems but so does every other company. Hell even the rice cars brake down. Personally I owned a 2002 GMC sierra (new then) and I had a lot more problems with it then my 96 VR6, which I have owned for 2 years now. Bottom line all cars need repairs from time to time.

Thanks for your comments. Of course I know that all brands have their problems. But I have heard so many bad things about the electrical system. What are some of the common problems with them?

Thanks again for replying

MK 3 (vr6 anyways)
-coil pack
-Transmission (syncros) but that’s only if you don’t know how to drive and ram the gears in.
