:banghead: i have a 1997 dodge ram with a 5.2L 318 with 155,000 miles. there is a noise in the motor thats sounds like a valve tap but only when the engine heats up to operating temp. it's not all the time only when i accelerate to about 1100 rpm then stops and again when i let of the gas to slow down. possibly coming from the lower end of the motor. any ideas what it might be?

I have the exact same problem.... on monday im bring it to the dealership because i have taken it to 3 people, and they all have different ideas..... one said it was the lifter. One said it was the Rocker arm, and the last guy said it was a piston pin..... Now the rocker arm and the lifter will take a few hours to do it yourself, all u need is a book from like pep-boys our something. The piston pin will be evil because you would have to rip apart the engine just to get to it and its like not even 25 dollar part. But the labor involved is expensive.. Now my friend was doing research he said he heard of Ram's have faulty connextions for the oil to the pistons, and the noise is coming from the piston firing with no oil with it..... But hopefully the dealership will tell me exactly whats wrong with it....i will keep u informed.

had a similar problem.I put in a new crank sensor and had to remove and install another which took care of the problem.
